Spree Spring/Summer 2014

Last week South Africa’s leading online retailer ‘Spree.co.za’ hosted their infamous seasonal lookboard event and this time it was to bring in their latest Spring Summer 2014 collection called “Spree Boutique”.

The fast growing online store has been around a while now and every season they come forth with an even better installation than the last.   More intense, but also just the right amount of fun to keep it playful and leave us all in ooohs and aaahhhhs.  Being in this industry, most of the ‘Fashion ‘events we attend are similar.  A brand trying to do the same kind of different as everyone else.  However Spree never fails to tell us some kind of story through what they send out on the models, walking the show.   I unfortunately wasn’t able to attend the press briefing before the actual event to hear what exactly Creative Director ‘Chris Viljoen’ and Fashion Producer 'Deon Redman' were trying to bring across to guests, although I’m pretty sure everybody took something good and inspiring from it.  I find that having a creative process, finding inspiration and then processing that into art is so much more than just throwing good fashion together. For me Spring should be fun, Colourful and light weight.  Exactly what Local Designers Thula Sindi, Gert Johan Coetzee, Kluk CGDT, Marianne Fassier and Clive Rundle of the "Spree Boutique" collection , showcased on the night.  Good Quality garments for men & women and also from well-established SA designers now brought to you on SA’s fast growing online space Spree.co.za.  I really admire the brand and what they’re doing to change and continuously evolve fashion into what we as fashion enthusiasts enjoy every season as well as their fast delivery service everybody is raving about.

Spree hosted us at the perfectly located Brydun Gallery on Buitengracht street in Boo Kaap.  The all white Gallery was set with accents of spring and pinths which models rotated on as guests and photographers formed a paparazzi crowd and started snapping pictures of the beautiful installation.   It’s been a while seeing everyone, so it kind of turned into the night out someone else had planned for us.  Drinks on tap as well as finger foods to keep us happy, not to mention the obsession that is social printing genius, Nifty250 (gotta love those guys).

we are currently experiencing some faults with uploading our event video but will post a link as soon as possible.

In the mean time, enjoy spring and take care!

Hi Everyone,

It's been a crazy long time since I've posted anything on the blog as I've decided to take a short break from it all and focus on the things that need my full attention more urgently.  In the meantime I have teamed up with Siyaam Ally as Videographer for the SimplySiyaam blog and we have been shooting some cool videos for her YouTube channel Here, so do check those out.

What else have I been doing you might ask?  Well besides my 9 to 5 Grizzy, I've been working on manufacturing some apparel and realised it would be a great idea if I brought it to the blog and started my own little online store.

Chanel Counter x Edgars | Event

Hi Everyone :)

Hope you all are keeping warm as Autumn finally kicks in.  Or is this winter? (who even knows)

Lately life has been quite exciting for me, as I start the planning phase of a new business venture in fashion design and manufacturing.  Hopefully within the next month or so I am able to share with you what I have been working on. I can however say that it's something for the ladies and would be a perfect fashion statement for Eid this coming winter.  Other than that, the blog has been taking off quite well since the beginning of the year and I am grateful for the few of you who show me so much love across my social media platforms.  You'll are too kind!

Having had two off days from work last week,  It gave me the opportunity to experience what it feels like to be a full time 'blogger' and by this I mean getting up at 8am, dealing with some admin before heading out the door to a radio interview with 2OceansVibe radio followed by lunch with the girls, a short meeting thereafter and finally covering an event later the evening.  This made me realise on the reals that the industry I chose to take a swing at couldn't have been a better one for me. Though I would love to wake up everyday and be a 'full time blogger', this may not be the most realistic goal for me right now and that's okay really, all in due time I guess.

Needless to say, I am back at my desk, doing what I know will generate me a definite income at month end, so no complaints further more.

I attended the Chanel Cosmetics Counter Launch in Edgars, Canal Walk on Wednesday with the girls and what a fantastic evening it was. We've never attended any beauty related events with the blog, so I was lucky to attend with my girls Saima & Qudoo-siyyah, who by the way is a make up artist and was willing to let me in on the must knows in cosmetics.

The event was well attended by a few bloggers as well as good clients of the Chanel Cosmetics brand in SA.  Bubbles and beats flowed throughout, whilst the ladies got makeovers and touch-ups by the friendly staff working the event.  The counter had good spacing with rotating mirrors and enough space to makeover at least 7-8 clients at once.  I've always been quite a huge fan of  Chanel, not only because they're one of the worlds most hard-core brands out there, but because their products are of good lasting quality and desirable scent.  A bit pricey here and there, but well worth it if you ask me.  This goes with saying that I need to get my hands on their Allure Sport Fragrance for men.  I cannot help but die a thousand deaths every time I get the alluring smell of it.  Pure amazingness in a bottle.

Fashion Edit | Film

On weekends, what  I usually do is hide out at my families house somewhere in the northern suburbs, generally to take the much needed quiet time to clear my head from a busy weeks thoughts, come up with fresh new concepts and process all the ideas that keep me up at night.

My cousin Kauthar and I felt the need to collab on something fashion related and so this video was created.  For this video I envisioned shooting her in the clothes she wore while organising her closet there and then, so it could have that real and organic yet hoodrat feel to it.  Hours later this was what we had come up with.

Please let us know what your thoughts are on our little collaboration, since we've already been planning some more.
See my Instagram for previews.

In other news,  I am totally obsessed with Jhene Aiko and the brilliance that are her beats right now, so we edited the video with our latest and favourite track.

Ciao

The SpreeAW2014 Lookboard event

Hello Everyone!
A week back, the girls and I got to attend the Autumn/Winter lookboard & line show, of South Africa’s favourite online store Spree.co.za.  I was so keen to finally attend an event with two of my oldest friends, who out of all my friends, actually share the same passion and love for the fashion, beauty and media industry as I do, which hyped me up even more.

The event was held at Wembley Square in town and the setting could not have been any more perfect.  Immediately I saw how well the event was put together and couldn’t wait to see what Creative Director, Chris Viljoen had in store for the usual and ever so jolly, Cape Town fashpack.  A few snap shots, usual banter & appletizer toasts later, the lights eventually dimmed on us and we were in for a treat.  I was delighted to find that there was a menswear line going to be showcased as well seeing that the brand never really catered for the stylish man.

I'm not going to say much about the pieces showcased, however I will leave you with our EVENT VIDEO and the beautiful pictures taken by our very own photographer, Qudoo-siyyah Stofberg.

We hope our readers have a blessed Easter Weekend
Peace & Love
