GUESS FALL 2014 COLLECTION

American lifestyle brand "Guess" has recently launched their 2014 Fall Collection.  The brand has always been famous for their trendy denims as well as their youthful fashion campaigns all around the world. Recently I've been following the latest season of 'America's next top model 2.0', were girls and GUYS get to battle it out for a $100 000 contract, to shoot an add campaign with Guess, for the first time ever!!!  Besides the usual dramas that comes with reality tv, I got to see and learn so much about what actually goes into shooting these Guess campaigns we see on every back cover of our magazines and what a big deal it means if you are dubbed a "Guess Girl" or guy in the modelling industry.

Any way...

The latest collection will include unique textures and novel trimmings, offering a trendy garment but still holds that true aesthetic value we all as consumers look for when buying clothing.

The Woman

For women, detailing is key this season, so the designers at guess have catered for this and created pieces that have lots of detailing such as lace insets, cut out patterns, zippers as well as studs to give these garments a more edgier look and feel.  Since it's a fall collection, most (if not all) the pieces are denim, and they range from distressed jeans, Jumpsuits, Studded jackets, army green skinny jeans as well as hints of camo here and there.

The Men

Vintage influences lend inspiration to the menswear collection, with washed out denims, washed out chambray shirts and denim jackets being staple items from the collection.  Embroided button downs, plaid printed and faded denim shits compliment the western image guess usually holds on to.  There was also some mixing of textures and fabrics in this collection and some of which are leather biker jackets, double breasted cardigans as well as valvet blazers that creates a modern, refined look for the fashion forward guys out there.  Colours such as deep red and indigo were used to add a touch of sophistication to the collection.

This Collection is set to hit South African shores February 2014; along with an assortment of accessories including Footwear, handbags, eye-wear, belts and loads of jewellery.
So keep and eye out for this...

Do have a gorgeous week ahead.
Xx

Camouflage | baseball cap | RihannaNavy

As sad as it is for some (especially the teens) I think Summer is officially over here in Sunny Cape Town and it's something we all have to deal with.  For me it's not all that sour as winter fashion amazes me more and more every year.  I know I haven't done a trend post in a while but it's got to happen sooner or later right? (Right)

So here's a quickie

Camouflage

As excited as I am for the winter layering looks, I'm hardly excited to get out of bed when the rain falls at early hours of the morning.  Personal struggles aside though, Camo/Camouflage is one of the main trends that has hit SA stores for winter 2013.  From jackets to trousers and even snap backs, local stores are stocking them piece by piece.  The garment that caught my eye the most while doing some window shopping with our fashion contributor was definitely the military jacket.  I've seen a few at local stores such as: Sportscene and woollies and they come in plain military styles as well.

The Baseball hat

If you've seen some of the latest international fashion weeks for Autumn/Winter you would have noticed these almost leather baseball caps being a runway-trend by the hottest designers and even rocked by locals who attended as well.  It's so easy going but chic at the same time due to its leather finished front.  Not to long ago I spotted a few at a Legit Fashion store here in Cape Town.  Take a look at the collage below to see the trend in full swing.

 #RIHANNA

So news went out a couple of weeks back that Grammy Award Winner and Fashion Icon 'Rihanna Riri Fenty' will bless Cape Town shores later this year with her ever changing style and amazing vocals.  As excited as I am, I'm a bit put off  by the fact that she performs her Diamonds World Tour in CPT on Eid night.  I guess this means no airport stalking for me then. Non-the-less, I will obviously be attending the concert after celebrating the day as I'm a long time #RihannaNavy.

Take a look at how Rih wears both trends shown above and completely rocks it with confidence.

Style spotting

This past weekend I hung out with two of my cousins to indulge in complete laziness, DVDs and a hole lot of junk food.  I took a few snaps of what they wore to a Sunday lunch yesterday afternoon.  They both wore printed Maxi's as they're so cool and easy to wear on hot suuny days like yesterday.  the 17-year-old fashionista paired this printed maxi skirt with a vintage leather belt, her mothers vintage Ray-Bans (from 16 years ago), a mustard cropped shirt and some comfy moccasins.  Meanwhile the other sister kept it cool with a wide stripe maxi skirt a plaited belt, aviators, a crop top and some easy going havianas.

enjoy

Chef by day | shopper by night

Tuesday evening I missioned to one of my best friends Sam, who by the way is our incredible fashion contributor here at on fashion street, to casually hang out and possibly discuss future endeavours for this website.  Sam's twin sister bought these 'Jeffrey Campbells' and promised I'd be the first to do a post on them when they touch down in Cape Town.  Since she was nowhere in sight, Sam and I took to her room to do what we would call "Raid" her closet.  It all started with only the Campbell's, a handbag and some jewellery only to find ourselves knee deep in Guess handbags and Shoes for Africa five minutes later.  We managed to shoot at least two accessory looks and other rad items in her humongous collection, but got out of there mighty quick as we could no longer stand the heat (which I'm pretty sure came from all these hot items).  I always knew she had quite a large collection, but this was just surprising to me.  With almost no space for her furs and bags of jewellery this chick isn't anywhere close to done with the online shopping world.  Although I must say, I really admire her unique taste and that she goes straight for the high fashion pieces instead of playing it safe.

Here are only but a few of the things we managed put together and photograph.

Enjoy.
